Dance puppet

Gone are the days when it was easy to get a job. Gone are the days when you write a simple resume, go in for an interview dressed in a nice suit and are hired based on your qualifications and work history.

Now it is a song and dance. Your resume has to have something to catch their eye because they only look at it for 2.2 nanoseconds. Then you have to include the all important cover letter.

Then you have to follow up three times.

After you get the granted interview, then comes deciding what to wear.

And at the interview, you must mirror their body language and voice inflection. Laugh at their stupid jokes and ask certain questions and remember key phrases that all hiring managers want to hear.

ITS ALL A BUNCH OF BUNK!!! Why can't things go back to the simple times.

And worse than that they're all into these long, drawn-out group or "team" interviews. It's a half-day or longer process. Very annoying.

Because all ANYBODY is interested in, anymore, is the superficial! Well, some rare exceptions. But 90% of the world seems to only want to see the superficial, and it's getting to the point where 90% of the world only HAS the superficial. There's little to nothing UNDERNEATH the outward appearance. No substance.

Best of luck with the job hunting, Barb!!! I'm rootin' for ya!

Don't any of these supervisors see through the b.s.? Is every single one of them really that stupid?
*sigh* ...of course they are. So sad.

I hadnt thought about it but you are right. Unless you have a contact you need a horse and pony show to set yourself apart from the competition! I remember sending bags of coffee and great chocolate with my resume for a couple of jobs in the 90's... Its been so long since I used a resume its odd! I think I need to revise it though so that I can try to get more work. My contact stuff is running dry!

So glad to see you back posting! How is that Grandbaby?

Oh girl, you're gonna land the good one, the one where they see through all of that, and catch the look in your eyes, the hunger, the " I just wanna do it"....

So good to see you again!

I HATE looking for a job. I'd rather wrestle an alligator wearing a chicken suit. I hate it. Hate it hate it hate it.

I'm with you. I wish it could go back to being simple, and being based on actual qualifications.

Yeah I miss the good ol' days. The days when you could just walk in and get a job.

ahh the good ol days.

Yeah, looking for a new job sucks bonk. That's the nice thing about looking while you still have a job.

I am so thankful I'm no longer in the recruitment industry - I couldn't agree more. Good luck, hon - these guys should recognise a gem when they see one, huh?

I think this is why so many people stay in jobs they hate.

and now you have to deal with the folks who say you look like a thug with them tatts and that hair cut. Judged before you can even perform. Hmmm now is that justice!

Oh, Lordy! The neverending interviews and mind games associtaed with trying to get a job now-a-days!

Use to be, you'd go in, talk to the person you'd be working for and get a yay-or-nay.

As my friend pointed out, there seem to be people who have been given the job of administering sould-killing interviews just for the sake of interviewing people. They don't care if you get a job - they have their's!

I'm gearing up to do a series of posts about this.

Best of luck...

Hope yours went well.

'Tis true. It's a bunch of corporate bullshit they want us to eat. I hate it, too.

The good days will be back. Everything is cyclical.

keep the faith!

Hey girl, nice to see you back. I hate the whole looking for a job thing too. I have been lucky, jobs have usually come my way or like the one I have now was off of Craigs list and my volunteer work caught their attention go figure. You will get thru it. I have faith.

I'm so sorry. (((HUGS))) I hope things go better. It really does seem that it's who you know that gets you the job these days, not how good of a worker you are.

Barb, I thought I'd drop of another poem.

I'm so glad to have a caretaker like yourself to guide my poems to a good spot. Poet's Corner needs to be revived. Thanks, and catch you soon. Hope this is good...

Wild Zephyrus

Wild Zephyrus
whisper to me
in the light...

Whistling through
my window pane
day and night

Sometimes it howls,
Sometimes it dies.

But it will always
rise again and fly

True, formless--
invisible phoenix
cool flames so high
crying "midnight"
in the autumn air
to all who wonder
evermore,
why?

Because nobody really cares anymore and it's sad isn't it??? It's not what you can do anymore. It's all about impressions. It's all about 'Can I like you?'

Yuck....
