The Stillness

She sits, a lone figure in the miles of sand.
Rising she follows along the waters edge.
Bending she scoops up some sand,
and watches as the sand disperses in the wind.
Waves silently crawl to tickle her toes.
Soft lips of the breeze caress her cheeks.
She breathes in salt air and smiles.
Branches of a nearby tree conduct the song.
She closes her eyes, and listens to the chorus of silence.

The other day Baron Ectar spoke of "Easy Silence". To me easy silence is part of being able to be at peace with yourself. I love to sit by myself and just reflect. I can sit and just enjoy being in my own skin. So many people I know are afraid of their own skin, afraid to sit in silence and think. It reflects an ability to look inside yourself and really be able to talk to yourself.

One of my favorite places is the ocean. I love to take off my shoes and walk along a deserted beach. I love to feel the sand on my feet and the wind in my hair. Watch the power of the waves as they send spray up from hitting the rocks. I feel so small again the might of the ocean, but yet feel so at peace there. There is nothing more beautiful than the splash of color as the sun moves from the sky and appears to sink into the water.

Easy silence is not always easy. I agree with you, it is about being comfortable in your own skin. I'm not always there. But I've tried to incorporate a regular practice of meditation in my life over the past couple of years. Very challenging for me. I want to turn on the TV or make some noise. But I'm learning. And I feel good when I have those quiet moments.

I also love the ocean. In fact, I find that almost any natural body of water gives me a sense of peace.

No being comfortable in your own skin is not easy. Meditation is a great way to center yourself and relax.

I am honored and I love your explantion of "easy silence" - will not be long and we will both be sitting at the beach with a cold drink in hand looking at the ocean and listening to the easy silence of the waves - hope you had a good weekend!

P.S. I am sending my brother over here - he writes poetry - I think he would enjoy yours!

I love taking midnight strolls, under a full moon, at the landfill. The solitude allows me to focus on relieving any inner turmoil and sometimes I find partially consumed burritos to boot.

I love the ocean, too. Actually any beach is fine with me, as long as I can hear the water and the birds...

Great Poem. I spent a lot of time around the ocean growing up. Living in Kentucky I don't get to see it as much as I would like to. But I do believe the ocean has great healing power and I do miss it a lot.

Oh how I miss the beaches of Southern California. We have zillions of lake..and the sound...but nothing compares to the sound of the surf crashing to make you realize just how little some of your problems can actually be and what a great world we live in.

It's a very peaceful feeling. At least I have my trees...

Some people really are afraid of silence. I asked someone I knew once who talked all the time if they were afraid of what they would hear if they were quiet. They didn't answer my question but the look on their face said it all.

Ha! Love it! Love the silence & love th ocean! Love the feeling of seeming so minute...it makes me feel blessed to witness such grand things!
My mothers nervousness can be gauged by her words per minute...

There is something so very peaceful about the ocean, about being on a deserted beach and looking out "forever" across the water. If you're lucky, there are no other people and not even a boat in sight. It's you and the planet.

To be anywhere on this earth and not see evidence of human activity is a rare treat. Even on a mountain top or at the Grand Canyon you often see the haze of distant pollution, but somehow the ocean drowns out the sounds and disguises the hanging particulates.

Your poem and your feelings speak to a very basic need for peace and the security of mother nature unspoiled. Many people don't understand that, in fact, fear silence and alone-ness.

I share your need and I smile as I picture you in your poem. Thanks, B.D., the whole world needs to understand this truth.
