It Moves Me

Music moves me...it effects me, changes my moods, lifts me up, and its part of who I am.

There is one song in particular that I keep coming back to...yes, it is a country song. It is written by Garth Brooks, "The Dance".

I know there are many of you who do not like country music, but forget for a moment that it is country. Just read the lyrics and see the song as what it is.

This song has so much meaning to me. This song answers all of the "what if?" questions. What if I had never met him/her? What if we had never married? What if? What if? What if? There is no way of nowing the end or outcome, but we can't let the fear of hurt cripple our chances of finding love or the right person to share it with.

Even though I am divorced, I would not change who I married or the lesson's (baggage - see Singleton's post) I learned. I grew to become the woman I am. I became secure in the knowledge of who I am and what I want out of a relationship. Yes, there was anger, hate, bitterness and all the nastiness that goes with divorce, but I still would not have missed the chance at the dance.

The Dance

Looking back on the memory of
The dance we shared 'neath the stars alone
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance

Holding you I held everything
For a moment wasn't I a king
But if I'd only known how the king would fall
Hey who's to say you know
I might have chanced it all

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end the way it all would go
Our lives are better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance
Yes my life is better left to chance
I could have missed the pain
but I'd of had to miss the dance

I have been playing with the idea of starting a music blog. There are thousands of songs and groups that I love to listen to. I had a hard time narrowing down the music I wanted on my new lil MP3 player. Though, I know nothing of using U-tube (I think that is how it is spelled). If anyone has thoughts or would like to add a thought about a music blog, or to tell me how to use the U-tube thingy, I would love to hear about it.

well lets start with:

YouTube is a popular free video sharing website which lets users upload, view, and share video clips. Videos can be rated; the average rating and the number of times a video has been watched are both published.

Founded in February 2005 by three former employees of PayPal, the San Bruno-based service utilizes Adobe Flash technology to display video. The wide variety of site content includes movie and TV clips and music videos, as well as amateur content such as videoblogging and short original videos. Currently staffed by 67 employees,[1] the company was named TIME magazine's "Invention of the Year" for 2006.[2] In October 2006, Google Inc. announced that it had reached a deal to acquire the company for US$1.65 billion in Google's stock. The deal closed on 13 November 2006.[3] Because of its acquisition by Google, it is sometimes referred to as "GooTube."[4]

Not a fan of country music (sorry), but I'm listening to the song right now, and it's OK. I like the violins in it=:)

And, we will always ask ourselves 'what if', but try not to dwell on those questions. Just take what you've learned and look forward to a happier future=:)

LB - That is what this song means to me also...learn from and go on.

I think that some people like Garth Brooks are really more than just country singers. There are some of his songs that I like a lot.

You can find LOTS and LOTS of great music videos on YouTube! Especially lots of those great 80's hair bands. LOL

Jay - I agree with you about some singer like Garth. They are more than just regular singers...they have a way of reaching out to you!

I love the great 80's hairbands!

I'm not a huge fan of Garth Brooks, or popular country, but I understand the connection with songs that so many people have.

Can't help ya with the music blog, but good luck if you go in that direction. I'll check it out if you do, Garth Brooks or not.

What if... I'll have to add that to my list of other bad words/phrases: should've, would've, could've, if only, but.

The truth be told...

check out www.groovyfab.com and join their forum. There are LOTS of links to music there and you just might stumble on some blogs with tips on how to set up your own music site.

Now you are officially the only one I know besides me that actually likes country! (I can't help it, I grew up on it!)

The Dance...besides being a beautiful song, it's true. Things don't always work out as we want them to, but we have to remember the good and grow from it.

He's got some cool songs...not many...but some.

Music in general is a most pleasant part of my world.

:) Well, I don't do country either, but my DH is a die-hard Texan.
Have you ever read 'The 10 people You Meet in Heaven'? It's one of those books for anyone who has ever asked 'why?'
The butterfly effect is real & despite all the 'what-ifs' out there I,like you, am grateful for most of the bad times, for they have helped to make me who I am too.
P&L to you Bardouble!

Already a country fan (and definitely a GB fan), but this song, above SOOOO many others, just ROCKS. And the theme of the song, to grab life while you can, because of you don't live it, you can't enjoy it, and you won't have those memories to sustain you..... Yep, love this song!

I have a You Tube account so I could help you. I'm on a music blog right now. I'm a music freak. I like everything but polka.

I did a video montage of still picture on DVD for a woman diagnosed with cancer. Her family, including the husband, paid me for the project. One of the songs they requested was "The Dance" by Garth Brooks.

Bardouble29 said...

Jr- wow, I bet that was really hard to do...

By the way, I am falling in love with country music. Would you fly to Philly and see Kenny Chesney with me? No one likes country here.
They associate it with Bush. I associate it with God.

I think it got deleted. We should start that one up again. The other one I'm on is more eclectic--we write reviews and sometimes put up videos. My job is country music, Southern Gothic, Christian music that actually can be listened to, along with other interests we share. So far I've written on Roseanne Cash, Jim White, 16th Horsepower and Nick Cave who really dug Hank Williams. I also wrote on The Man in Black on my own blog. One day I will do Lou Reed. What do you want to do with your music blog--review songs, display songs, write about why certain people are important to you? This one blog I am on I was invited to and it was in full swing. The guy who runs it is English, so there is a lot of emphasis on bands that I don't know well, but we agree on other things like Pink Floyd, and just other global bands. Another writer is Scottish and he is always introducing us to interesting music. He and I are also poets who like to examine whether the lyrics of a particular artist are poetry. Check it out sometime--it's on my profile page.

I like the lyrics to that song. I've never heard the song I don't think but the words make a lot of sense.

I'm conducting an important readers poll, can you spare a minute?

Thanks!

I was going to edit in a photoshop picture of me standing next to you, but this is a contest I wanted to win.

Nice song. Your post led me to YouTube where I could hear Garth Brooks sing it, then it reminded me of another song I'd heard only part of one day while waiting in a drugstore line: "I Hope You Dance," (which can also be found on YouTube).

Music... One of these days I must write how much music means to me...

YouTube can suck you in for hours, but there's more garbage than good stuff in the music videos, in my opinion - lots of inanity thinking it's art. For a treat, listen to Eva Cassidy sing "Over the Rainbow." Simply beautiful.

Thanks, BD. Now I'll be humming all day!

Music affects me too! I love it, I'd rather listen to music than watch TV. Unfortunatly my husband doesn't feel that way. He prefers TV. For me, though, music is very eclectic and varying. Most people think my iPod is totally bi-polar. :)

I love the song you posted. Garth Brooks is my absolute favorite of all time!! I'm not a huge fan of country anymore, but I still love Garth!
