In Memory

Last night I returned from a wonderful vacation. I was met with the news that a friend of mine had passed away.

Baron -

I want to thank you for your friendship and your wise words when I was down. You told me once in an email that you learned so much from me, but it was I who learned from you. You were such a wonderful friend. You were so passionate about your life and your children. You wrote to me about your family and how much they meant to you. You told me of your brothers and sisters. You were the first to want to look inside yourself to change and grow, you then challenged me to do the same. You were always quick with a joke or a funny saying. We shared much about our love of the same music. You stood for what you believed in and the ones you loved. I am proud to have been your friend and you are so very missed.

To everyone you had a kind word and you shared so much of yourself with all of us. I never had the opportunity to meet you in person, but after all our talks and emails, you had become such a dear friend to me. There are many, many lives that you touched.

While on vacation I learned that the Mayan cutlure does not believe in goodbye, but rather that they will meet up again in the future, whenever that may be. Their word for meeting again in the future is Sama. And to my dear friend Baron I say Sama to you.

It's amazing how much love he had in him, to care about and inspire so many people. He was a really good man - one of the best.

Welcome back, Barb. And yes, I was very saddened to learn over the weekend of Baron's passing. I only knew him through the words on his blog, but it was always so nice to read his thoughts. He seemed to have a great spirit and real sense of self-evaluation and determination. Your comments about him are very touching.

What? Is this true? I am stunned and so sorry to hear this news. He was a very sweet man, always helpful and with kind words, and I was touched by the way he was becoming reacquainted/connected with his mother. The music he shared on his site was something I always enjoyed.

I will miss him.

Wizened - On March 28th he went to sleep complaining of a headache and suffered a brain embolism. He will be greatly missed by all of us.

Wow that is so sad, I am so sorry for your loss. I recently learned some things about the Mayan's. They were much smarter than we gave them credit for. Hopefully they will be correct in this respect. Welcome back though Barb.

Welcome back BarDouble...you were missed!

I beleive that the Mayans are right and so are you. Baron definitely had an impact, a positive one, everywhere he went. I am so sorry that you returned home to this sudden and unexpected news.

What a sweet memorial to somebody who by all appearances was a very good guy. May his rest from this life be peaceful, and may our paths all cross again.

And Welcome Back Barb! I hope that you had a relaxing vacation!

I am sorry for your loss you sound like a very compassionate person and I just realized our blogs have the same name.

Wondering what could have happened to Baron, I went to his blog and re-read some of his posts. I didn't know him well and wondered if perhaps he knew he was dying and was using blogging to help sort out his life and its meaning. I knew him to be kind and helpful; his blog shows him to be sensitive and thoughtful.

Lance ("Baron") wrote about his "house of four rooms: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual." He said, "There is an Indian belief that...unless we go into every room every day, even if only to keep it aired, we are not complete." Lance was working his way through his rooms.

His final post was about entering the fourth room - the spiritual one - and he said, "When I look into this room I am not uncomfortable at all."

Apparently "Baron" never consciously knew Death's nearness, and yet he had gotten his house in order.

I wonder how many of us could exit this life unexpectedly and leave it as gracefully as Lance did.

May peace be his.
