I want Ink

As inspired by several of my friends, I really want a tattoo. My beautiful friend Echo, is working on a gorgeous masterpeice of her own

Another of my friends has this gorgeous fairy on her side.

I have seriously thought about it for awhile now.

My dilemma is this....I still am trying to figure out exactly what I want. I am going to be baring this the rest of my life, I want it to be something that I still love in 10 years. I love things that are of mystical and mythical type. I love unicorns and fairies, but it seems that everyone has a fairy now. And I don't want what everybody else has.

Maybe someone out there can help me come up with some ideas....I know some of you love being creative, and I am SO not creative.

I want something feminine and sexy looking. I think its weird when chicks get hard looking tats, but thats just my opinion.

My other dilemma is where the heck am I gonna put it. I want it in a place I can cover it up, but also show it if I so choose.

I also am SO not going by myself to get it. C'mon Spongy help me get rid of them chicken feathers!!!

I will give this some thought as you should because like you said it will be with you forever. Location is very important too because some people think bad things about people with tats.

I ran into a young girl that I used to work with and she was wearing shorts and a shirt that was open in the back. I saw she had a cute tat on her back and I made a nice compliment about it. She turned to face me and said "I have another one too" and without hesitation, showed it to me. I wasn't sure what to say so I said "wow that's nice"but what I wanted to say was "wow do you shave it yourself?" I did blush. I have some ideas for you.

Greg- All ideas are welcome...I am having a hard time being creative, so I welcome fresh ideas.

Jo- Thanks for the link. I figure there are worse things to be addicted to...so lets go get the tats. By the way, your brother also volunteered for the three of us to go get my first one. He said he would even get another, are you ready to another one too???

No ideas for ya. I've got one picked out that I want, but I need the nerve, the money, and the time to drive to Anchorage to get it done. LOL And DH is very specific that it's something I'm going to have to save up for myself (it's not something he'd be willing to give me as a birthday gift, for example) and I am NOT to expect him to hold my hand. He's against tattoos, so if I want one it's going to have to be something I do myself, without him. Ok. I can live with that. *grin* My tat will be about (no more than) 2 inches wide. It's going to go on the back of my neck just below my hairline. It's a crescent moon filled in with celtic knotwork, and I want it horns up. I think it'd be a good 30th b-day present to myself. *grin*

I'd love to see what you finally decide on, but do take your time because you're right, it's something you'll have to spend the rest of your life with. And be sure to place it somewhere with little tendency to sag. As somebody put it, a young girl can get a dolphin tat on her belly, and by the time she's had 2 kids it looks like a humpback whale.

Hell, let's all go. Let's get a posse!

I saw a picture where someone had a little stick figure pushing a lawnmower, right above the hairline of her "goodies." lol. I think you should get the USDA PRIME seal on your backside. Hee-hee! :D

I'm teasing you. I don't even know what I want, I have no clue what you should get.

Bardouble29 said...

Kati - that is a perfect 30th present to yourself. I would go with you, but you are a bit out of me being able to jump in the car and go.

Enemy- I think we should all go. I do have to say its cute that your son does not want you to get one. I am sure if you give him a bit of time to get older that will change...and then he will want one for himself.

Anne- USDA PRIME is perfect for my backside!!! I had another friend who wanted to get a line tat above her goodies that said, "if you can read this, you had better know what to do next." I dared her to go get that....

I've thought about getting one too... but, for all intents and purposes, it's permanent. It would need to be perfect. Sorry no ideas here.

Bardouble: I am counting on that, actually. Have you ever heard the song Playboy Mommy?

Enenmy -no, now my interest is piqued.

I wish I had a creative thought here. I've been wanting some ink myself. After all, I turned 50 this year...time to do something special just for myself! But I can't figure out what, either. Maybe I'm trying TOO hard. I've looked online at web sites about symbols and symbolism a lot. But still undecided.

If I ever did decide to get a tattoo (unlikely), I would go for something simple. Also, as someone has already mentioned, it's important to keep in mind that when you're old and wrinkly, whatever you do choose might suffer extremely if you put in a bad spot. Oh, and I wouldn't pick a really bony spot, because OW! ... but that might just be me.

Me thinks you should get a little green monster tattoo on yer left breast and a pink frog on yer right, but that's just me...

STOMP.

Whatever you get and wherever ya put it yer gonna love it. Then after three months you'll forget it's there.

I've thought about getting a tat many times. Back in college a couple of buddies and I all agreed that we were going to get an ear pierced and get a tat. We all chickened out. Nobody would go first. LOL

I still might get one. Maybe on my 40th birthday? That could be cool.

I've had the same guy work on mine for the last three years. The best advice I can offer you and this comes from him, and he is damn good. Is find one that's an artist. Give him/her your idea and let him'her draw it. This way it's original. They hate it actually when you walk in with a pic off the net or pull one off the wall. They dig it when you show them a few pics, but add your ideas ... they love to do their own work. They often charge more, because the have to draw it, but trust me ... it's well worth the money, and it's all yours then!

PAst due & catching up here. I agree with Spongy.
Find yourself a good artist first. While out & about, if you notice a tat on someone that you like the craftsmanship of...ask them who did the work. That's how I came upon my tattoo artist.
I think Spongy is right about the original artwork too, but if you find something you really take it to your artist & see if he/she likes it or if they can improve upon it for you.
My next tattoo will be on the back of my neck, where it can be concealed or revealed on a whim.
Finally, I think that if you like fairies...you should get a fairy. It will be all yours, distinct like you & not like everyone elses.
Browse through tattoo magazines and google keywords for images you like...you might be surprised at what ideas you find that you like.

Oooh a tattoo -- how exciting! If I were going to have one, I'd put it on my hip where not just anyone can see it, which makes it utterly sexy... and of course, it's easy to hide ;) I think if you like fairies or butterflies, you should stick to it. Doesn't matter what everyone else has :)

How about something in nature that you love?

I have always wanted a tattoo since I was 8, and still don't have one. My last boyfriend had many, and told me that because everyone and their mother has one now, I was unique because I don't have any. (But, I still secretly want one. LOL) So, just think it through first.

And, if I were to get one, it would be an owl, maybe in a tree. As far as placement goes, it depends on the size of the design as to where you can put it. Your tattoo artist can help you with that decision:)

I hope this helps!

Whatever you get, make sure it has meaning for you. The shoulder, ankle, and upper arm are good peek-a-boo spots.

Now here's a topic, I can go on forever about.

The first thing you should do is go to a Tattoo Studio. Ask them questions and give them an idea of what you are thinking of. The professionals will be able to tell you what they can do to make it your own. Take a look at their art and the artists portfolio's. Sometimes it helps to see what other people have to give you an idea of what you want.

There are soooo many places to put a tattoo. It just depends on how you want to see it and if you want other's to see it OR if you only want a certain someone to see it. Pretty much everywhere can be easily covered unless it's on your face. Pretty much anywhere you put it is going to be sexy.

Pick something that has somekind of meaning to you (since it is going to be permanent) it would be great to choose something that is close to your heart. Or a theme that you just really love. The ideas are limitless.

I probably just made things a little more difficult because the ideas are so many but believe me, once you see what you want just go for it. Sometimes I find the more I think about I have a tendency to talk myself out of it.

So, good luck!

PS. Your friend's Amy Brown Fairy is cute.

A friend of mine were going to drive to New Orleans to get tattoos once. Then we chickened out. Actually, it had more to do with a lack of time off to make the trip. And money.

Good luck finding your tattoo.

I have two, and I still really like them a lot. They're on my shoulders so I can conceal them pretty easily. I hope to see yours someday.

I have no ideas! I struggle with this myself cuz I want one bad....on the inside of my wrist cuz my daughter says "that is totally badass!"

everyone has fairies....I don't know!!!

I like nice small tattoos on women. Nothing scary or too girlie...something sexy like the one you have pictured. The tribal thing is old and overdone.

Find something that inspires you. I don't have any tatoos right now, but look forward to getting one someday. Mine will have something to do with my kids and baseball.

As for location...I still think that the lower back is sexy (although very overdone as well, but I'm a sucker for it still)...or the top of the thigh.

i don't think i would ever have the courage to get a tattoo. i barely was able to get my ears pierced as a teen-ager. if i did get one...i would probably get a small butterfly...not so original but symbollic.
