Fire! Fire!

It kills me to turn on the news right now...

California, Florida and Minnesota are going up in flames. There are probably more areas, but I don't know about them.

California did not get near enough rain this year. It is going to be nuts this year.

BE CAREFUL. If you are a smoker, DO NOT THROW YOUR FREAKIN BUTTS OUT THE WINDOW!!!! There are more fires started this way.

Please keep the men and women who fight these major forest fires in your thoughts and prayers. I know several people who are on a hotshot team and they put their lives on the line everyday to keep these wildland forest fires from consuming entire towns.

Yea, I get to be first to comment. And I actually do have something to say. Most of the men that work for me are volenteer firemen and frequently go out on calls. I try and give them a break if they were up all night fighting fires even though it is against company policy.
My father was a fireman and once I saw him go into a house that was on fire and it frightened me. We will keep them in our prayers.

I hate seeing smokers throwing those burning butts out their car windows. I would like to toss anothr butt out when I see it.Thanks, Great reminders.

Georgia too... we smell the smoke here every day! Some days its literally thick in the air and blocks the sun in the am. Scary!

Here in Ga., we have had over 100,000 acres burn & just today they arrested 5 young men for starting the fires & they profess that there will be more arrests forthcoming.
If smokers don't want their vehicles to stink like ashtray, they ought not even be smoking in them! I understand that one of the fires in California began with a cigg butt. So sad. With the drought, the fires, the floods & all of the storms of recent years... mother natures fury almost seems of biblical proportions

Kate - It is scary, it makes you look over your shoulder to make sure the fire isn't headed your way.

SLB - I hope they really hold the boys accountable. It takes approximately 25 years just for forests to barely start to become an eco system again after a fire like some of there they are having.

For the first time in 5 years we have actually gotten our "normal" amount of rainfall in this area. They even lifted a "burn ban" that had been in place for more than two years.

It's incredible how hard that job is to fight those wildfires. And those guys don't get paid worth a crap for what they risk.

Oh, Lord, not again. When will people learn?

Smokey the Bear is proud that you posted this=:)

It seems they will hold these boys somewhat accountable, but damage is done. Over 400 homes destroyed & counting. The interstate from Georgia to Florida is shut down due to zero visibility. Plus what about all the wildlife dessimated. It's so sad & yes, Smokey the Bear, among others, appreciate this post!

Jay - Thats great! I know a few states, like Kansas, Arkansas and a few others in that area got plenty of rain...but there are many other states that are in drought (again).

Enemy - The question is can they learn???

LB - LOL, I love Smokey the Bear.

SLB- The same people I know that are fire fighting in Minnesota get called to Florida all the time for the big fires there. I just think its sad.

Prayers said for the safety of all those involved in fighting these fires, and those who's lives & livelyhoods are in the paths these fires are on.

Sad. The world can be such a tragic place sometimes.

I was in total ignorance of all these fires you are experiencing, how horrible. Perhaps I should stop my constant whining about all the rain we get on our little rock..

For days, we've been convinced the world was on fire......slowly burning to the ground. It's awful. It's been raining ashes for days. Pray everybody, the houses are getting harder and harder to save and our Firefighters are tired, really tired. Thanks for this post!

Me be a voracious smoker, but me often be ashamed of the terrible manners and habits of me fellow promethians.
Just because you indulge in a vice don' give you permission to be irresponsible. In fact, when indulging people ought to be more thoughtful to the effects of their actions.

Damn shame.

Just wanted to stop by and say Happy Mothers day, sucks about the fires.

Boy can I relate to this post.
Remember the Day Fire? Yup, we do.
Living in the Kern County mountains here in Ca, I can tell you that we simply dread fire season. Last year we had enough fires to deal with for 5 years. And the next time I see someone throw their butt out their window on the Grapevine again I'm, gonna follow them home and, er, well.... yell at them! (I was going to say something else... --evil grin--)

People just don't get it at all. They over heat, and pull right up next to the mountain while their car catches it on fire. They burn trash in the National Forest. They light campfires when it's not permitted.... etc, etc, etc....

--sigh-- I HATE fire season....
